Keller S. Magenau (former Rising Scholars Program Coordinator) Keller’s primary role at UNH was with the Rising Scholars Program housed at CFAR and jointly sponsored by UNH and the US Department of Education. The goal of the program is to support UNH students who are among the first in their families to go to college and who have a high financial need. As the Rising Scholars Program Coordinator, Keller is responsible for all aspects of programming for Rising Scholars. Programs and services are designed to challenge and support students in their developing the critical habits of mind and the fundamental strategies that lead them to succeed and thrive in college and beyond. Bringing over a decade of student-centered teaching, and research in interaction to her work at the Center, Keller could also frequently be found teaching a course in the Department of Communication, the Justice Studies Program, or the Linguistics Program here at UNH. Her experience in the classroom, and her research in institutional interaction, inform her approach to empowering students and inspiring excellence. Keller grew up in a suburban beach town in southern California, and has lived in the more urban settings of Washington, DC; Wakayama, Japan; and San Jose, Costa Rica. She has traveled throughout the United States, Latin America, and Europe. After twelve years in Washington, DC she was very happy to return to coastal living; now enjoying all the outdoor benefits of the seacoast year-round with her son and good friends in New England. Keller left the CFAR family in July, 2008 for a private sector position in the Seacoast NH area.
